Paris Orly Airport began its operations in 1932 as Villeneuve Orly Airport in Paris, France. Back then, it was just a secondary airport to Le Bourget Airport. When Germany occupied France during World War II (WWII), the German Army had control over the airport. As a result, it suffered so much damage from bombings. The US Air Force rebuilt ORY-Paris Orly Airport post-war and placed it under the control of Aeroport de Paris, a public company. Since then, it expanded rapidly. In fact, in 1952, it hit a record of 1.2 million passengers passing through. This was twice as many as the passengers passing through Le Bourget Airport at the time.
